Wind energy grew by 13 percent in the same period, reaching 93 gigawatts. Hydroelectric power capacity was calculated as 19 gigawatts with an increase of 2 percent.

Global hydroelectric electric power capacity reached 40 percent of all clean sources with a capacity of 1230 gigawatts.

Solar energy took the second and third place, respectively, with a share of 28 percent with 849 gigawatts, and wind power with a share of 27 percent with 825 gigawatts.

Clean energy investments in Turkey did not slow down

Renewable power plants accounted for 97 percent of the electricity generation capacity commissioned last year in Turkey.

According to the data of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, 3,446 megawatts of licensed electricity generation capacity was commissioned in Turkey last year.

Wind power plants accounted for 51.5 percent of this capacity with 1772 megawatts, while solar energy accounted for 14.5 percent with 498 megawatts.

While the share of biomass, waste heat and geothermal power plants in the licensed electricity generation capacity commissioned last year was 16.6 percent, the share of hydroelectric power plants was calculated as 14.5 percent. Last year, 53.7 percent of the total installed power was renewable energy.

Despite the global and local increase in clean energy, more investment is needed to minimize the effects of climate change and make the most of renewable energy, which is becoming cheaper than fossil fuels.

According to IRENA’s scenario, which aims to limit global temperatures to 1.5 degrees in climate change, energy efficiency applications, renewable energy and related technologies will be the driving force in the energy sector all over the world by 2050.

Source:
https://www.aa.com.tr/tr/cevre/yesil-enerji-donusumunde-verimlilik-ve-temiz-enerji-teknolojileri-itici-guc-olacak/2618718

According to the scenario of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which aims to limit global temperatures to 1.5 degrees in climate change, energy efficiency applications, renewable energy and related technologies will be the driving force in the energy sector until 2050.
